What are the COVID Safe protocols for GIO Stadium Golf?
At GIO Stadium Canberra, the health and safety of people attending Stadium Golf is the number one priority. GIO Stadium Canberra management is closely monitoring the evolving coronavirus situation to ensure we operate in line with government guidelines and the National COVID-19 Safe Workplace Principles.
Due to the quickly changing environment, procedures outlined below may need to be modified at any time and with short notice.
GIO Stadium Golf is run according to the COVID Safe Event Protocol developed by the ACT Government. This includes the following safeguards:
Participant and Staff COVID Safe Declaration:
All participants and staff are required to sign a declaration and are not to attend the venue if they:
• Have experienced any cold or flu like symptoms in the last 14 days (in particular fever, respiratory illness, difficulty breathing, sore throat).
• Have returned from overseas in the last 14 days.
• Have visited a COVID-19 Hotspot in the last 14 days.
• Have had close contact with or cared for someone with COVID-19 within the last 14 days.
• Have been in close contact with anyone who has returned from overseas in the last 14 days.
Restrictions regarding travel between local areas, states and hotspots are regularly changing, the latest information will be used to determine one’s eligibility to participate.
Physical distancing will be communicated via signage and enforced throughout the venue, including at each teeing location and within each function space.
• Queue management systems highlighting safe physical distancing will be implemented using controls such as floor decals, bollards and signage.
• Room capacities controlled to maintained compliance with current regulations
Public health and hygiene informational signage positioned throughout the venue.
• Sanitiser stations throughout the venue including one at each teeing platform.
• Approved disinfectant wipes available at each teeing platform for the cleaning of equipment prior to use.
Cleaning staff will disinfect door handles, toilet handles, bathroom faucet handles, etc. in all used areas several times per day and throughout event runtimes in addition to normal cleaning procedures.
• Appropriate cleaning procedures will be implemented to meet Work Safe Australia guidelines.
• A deep clean of the venue will be conducted prior to each event day to ensure appropriate sanitisation of all occupied areas.
• Cleaning requirements may be subject to change based on new advice from health authorities. In this instance, all necessary cleaning requirements shall be undertaken.
GIO Stadium Canberra will collect and record a name and a mobile number or email address for all staff, participants and spectators attending the venue. Records are used only for the purposes of tracing COVID-19 infections and are stored confidentially and securely. Records will be destroyed securely after 28 days.
COVID Safe Food and Beverage Service:
Food and beverages (including alcohol) will be served in the designated dining areas. All food and beverage must be consumed while seated. Participants will not be able to consume while walking around the course.
Caddie’s COVID Safe Protocols:
Group caddies will assist with monitoring and managing the venues COVID Safe protocols, they will:
• Maintain and encourage physical distancing practices
• Maintain and encourage good hygiene
• Allow players to remove their own clubs and balls from the bags provided
• Request players sanitise and clean equipment prior to use
Shotgun Starts for exclusive bookings (32-44 players):
Registration and post round activities will be controlled to ensure all participants adhere to current legislation and Public Health Orders are implemented and enforced.
What are the terms and conditions for GIO Stadium Golf?
Registrations other than exclusive bookings for groups over 32 must be made online via the website. (Online bookings TBA).
Online bookings for each session will close at 3:00 pm the day prior to the session. No walk-up entries will be accepted. Players booked in under subscribed sessions may be transferred to an alternative session time – See full terms and conditions for details.
Bookings from $45 (inc. GST) applies per person. A booking fee will be applied at the check-out. Bookings are subject to availability. All payments are final and non-refundable.
All exclusive group bookings (corporate/party) are subject to availability and have a minimum food and beverage spend. Contact us now for further information or to secure your booking prior to the general release.

Can I book an exclusive session for a company event or party group?
Yes – all exclusive bookings include a food and beverage package and the minimum booking size is 32 golf players.
The maximum number of players is 44 golf players that can take part in the golf event. Only ticketed players are permitted entry to the venue.
Smaller corporate or party groups will be joined by other participants, however private function spaces are available subject to availability for pre and post event functions.

Will food and beverages be available on the course?
Yes – Food and beverages can be purchased before and after you round at the Sports Bar located in the West Lounge. There will be additional opportunities to grab a quick beverage on your way around the course.
Please drink responsibly – GIO Stadium Canberra reserves the right to refuse participation if players are deemed unfit to play.
Is the event open to any age and level of fitness?
The event is open to all ages, but children 15 years and under must be accompanied by an adult playing in the same group.
The event is recommended for those with moderate fitness and mobility given the number of stairs to be negotiated around the course.
How long will a round take?
The actual playing time will be approximately 90 minutes however there will be plenty of time to enjoy the Sports Bar before and after your round.
A shot clock will be used to keep play moving, each player will be allocated one minute at each hole to play their 3 shots. Your personal caddie will ensure that your group is keeping pace.
The Sports Bar will open 30 minutes before the first session and close approximately 45 minutes after the last session each day.
Do I have to have an official handicap or be a member of a golf club?
No, Stadium golf is for all levels from beginner to professional.
Where is the best place to park?
Car parking is available directly outside the West Gate at GIO Stadium Canberra, access to this area via Battye Street. Please note this parking area is known as “West VIP Car Park” for major events. See GIO Stadium Canberra Parking Map
Where should I enter the venue for Stadium Golf?
Entry to GIO Stadium Canberra for Stadium Golf will be via the “West Corporate Entry” at the end of Battye Street. Please note GIO Stadium Canberra Conditions of entry will apply.
What should I wear?
We recommend wearing comfortable clothing suitable for a round of golf including closed flat soled shoes. (No thongs or high heels)
Will children’s size clubs be available?
Yes, there will be children size clubs available. Each tee will have a range on men’s, women’s and children’s clubs in right and left handed.
Can I get a refund if I decide I can’t participate?
All sales are final and all bookings are non-refundable
What happens if it rains?
Golf is a game played in the elements and accordingly the event will be on rain, hail or shine. (except for extreme weather conditions and or lightning)
7 or the 9 teeing platforms are in the covered grandstand areas and will be partially protected from the elements.
Can my friends come and watch me play?
Only ticketed players are permitted entry into GIO Stadium. This is to maintain room capacities in the Clubhouse and Sports Bar (West Lounge).
Are there any prizes up for grabs?
Two Stadium Sports Lounge passes to a 2022 Brumbies or Raiders fixture will be awarded to the lowest female and male score throughout the event. Leading scores will be shown on the GIO Stadium Golf website throughout the event. There is no limit to the number of times a player can participate.
If the lowest event score is tied the winner will be decided by the Golf Australia “count-back” system.
The lowest female and male score from each session time will be awarded a Callaway prize pack.
If the lowest session score is tied the winner will be decided by a “sudden-death” shoot-out from the 1st hole.
Do I putt out on each hole?
No, scores for the 9 outside holes will be allocated by the proximity to the hole of your best shot from the three played;
Score 1 – In the hole
Score 2 (Birdie) – within the 5 metre diameter circle
Score 3 (Par) – within the area of the green you are aiming at
Score 4 (Bogie) – anywhere on the grass playing surface
Score 5 (Double Bogie) – outside the playing area in the seating or concourse areas
You will get the opportunity to show off you putting skill on the 10 hole which is located in the Sports Bar.
Can I bring my own clubs, balls and gloves?
You can bring you own glove but all clubs and balls will be provided for you on the day. Personal club and ball use is not permitted.
Are caddies compulsory?
Yes. Players must follow the instructions and direction of their caddie at all times. Your personnel caddie will guide you around the course and advise you on how to play each hole. Your caddie will also keep your group on track with the allocated session times.
Players that ignore the instructions of their caddie and/or behave dangerously may be denied further participation and no refund will be provided.
When should I turn up for my round?
Player must arrive no later than 30 minutes prior to their starting time. Player should check-in at the Clubhouse as soon as they arrive. A player briefing will take place 15 minutes prior to the start time, players will meet their caddie at this time.
What do we tee off from?
The 9 outdoor stadium holes will have raised teeing platforms with short-pile synthetic turf foam based hitting mats.
