The Major Events Act 2014 (The Act) provides a regime for dealing with major events so they can be hosted in a safe manner and includes provisions for crowd management.
Major sporting events at Manuka Oval and GIO Stadium Canberra (including Canberra Raiders, ACT Brumbies, Giants, international cricket and Big Bash League fixtures) may be declared as ‘Important Sporting Events’ under this legislation.
Under the Major Events Act and subsequent declaration as ‘Important Sporting Events’, significant fines (up to $8,250) now apply for those who breach conditions of entry at GIO Stadium Canberra and Manuka Oval for offences relating to :
- Unauthorised entry to the event venue and field of play
- Interference with the event
- Possessing a prohibited item
